Coffee Pot Rocks

Photographer John Christer Petersen’s show, “Sedona Red Rocks”, is featured in the Photographer’s Gallery at the Ashland Art Center, and continues through the end of April.
Petersen is a local fine art photographer.  In 2019 he was fortunate to visit Sedona, Arizona and fell in love with the mystical red rocks surrounding the city.
Sedona is in northern Arizona and part of the Sonoran Desert. The reddish-orange sandstone apparently was deposited during the Permian Period more than 250 million years ago. He was able to visit the area after a reunion in Phoenix; however, the weather was not cooperative and he was not blessed with much time for photography. The Thunder Mountain Trail was near his hotel and is a popular hike about 3 miles long and was easily accessible.
The  red sandstone formations  change color tones depending on the time of day and the weather. He sensed a spiritual connection to this area and certainly considered their beauty to be the finger prints of God.
