Ken Grant’s paintings invite the viewer into a sunlit comfort zone. They are seductive and serene. His ENVIRONMENTS include indoor and outdoor scenes that are uncluttered and peaceful. One might be encouraged to focus on the light and shadow from a window, a door, a stairwell or upon an object in the room.
Ken’s STILLIFE compositions are simple arrangements that become complex by employing reflective surfaces, positioning and lighting thereby turning ordinary objects into something extraordinary.
Ken also lets his imagination enter a surreal world sometimes portraying FIGURATIVE subjects in unexpected places or situations.
There is a recurring theme that leaks into all of ken’s work – water. He spent much of his life near the sea and though he might be called a romantic contemporary realist, the water makes everything surreal.
