Retzlaff Gallery (Art Building):
Entering the Infinite, Andrew Youngblood, BFA Thesis Exhibition
Andrew Youngblood’s work is centered around the interaction between the binary opposition of control and chaos. In his thesis exhibition, he hopes to illustrate the constant tension between these polarized forces, and instill a heightened awareness in the viewer of their relative position amidst this balance. The large scale drawing is a manifestation of both extremes, and his interpretation of how these forms, in their isolation and intersection, can be represented through mark making.
Thorndike Gallery (Art Building):
Dialectical Existence, Keaton Garnett, BFA Thesis Exhibition
The work surrounds the concept of dialectics, the reconciliation of conflicting or opposing ideas as simultaneous truths. These truths being experiences that either create connection to one’s self as well as their surroundings or disconnect from self and surroundings. Photographs have an ability to replicate, but through careful process behind the camera and intentional installation I strive to create a new reality.
Meyer Memorial Gallery, Boise – Cascade Gallery, Art Department Chairs Gallery, & JELD WEN Gallery (Marion Ady Building):
Annual Student Art Show, SOU Students, Group Exhibition
Displaying a variety of mediums and practices, the Annual Juried Student Art Show celebrates the hard work of SOU Students while also providing them with the opportunity to showcase their artwork.
Juried by Masimba Hwati: Zimbabwean multi-disciplinary artist and MFA graduate student at the School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan.
Semi-Private Studios Gallery (Marion Ady Building):
Silhouette Forest, Matthew Spurlock, Capstone Exhibition
I create spaces with light and shadow; environments that can be elements of a story. These spaces are created with cut outs of figures and shapes then lit at different angles to create an immersive experience of other-worldliness.
