“Painting with Yarn” textile art by Laura Lawrence
Laura Lawrence’s design inspirations come from two directions: early training as a dancer, and the collection of abstract Expressionist paintings in the law firm where she worked.
“My ‘painting with yarn’ fiber journey began by designing needlepoint canvases, followed by weaving tapestries. When an English knitwear designer made me a unique ensemble, I realized that that was the ideal technique to implement my creative ideas. I am ever intrigued by the possibilities of knitting a single piece of fabric into its final shape without adding excess bulk in the way of darts and seams–unless as a specific design element.”
Come see Laura’s wearable art upstairs at AAC on the featured artist wall as well as in her studio–No. 7.
