It is the blessed few who are born into this world with a passion that was not to be interrupted by the complexity of the modern day we live in.

Meet Stefan Savides, bronze sculptor and designer of an aviary haven for migrating waterfowl. Stefan’s home features tall windows that open up to a broad vista overlooking a pond that he made with the “build it and they will come” mantra. The pond offers animal visitors and expectant birds a sanctuary to return to year after year. It also provides endless inspiration for Stefan’s work.

Stefan began his career in taxidermy which provided him an intimate understanding of the anatomy and complexity of waterfowl. “Flawless anatomy is paramount to me, but it doesn’t need to be captured in a tight rendering. Coming from taxidermy and then working in clay sculpture, it’s easy to make the piece more and more perfect. My goal is not to swap looseness in lieu of knowledge, but to capture the essence of the bird with less detail.”

Stefan’s talents could be measured by his accomplishments in the art world, which are many and have spanned a lifetime, however what is more important is the essence of his life. From a young adult he has built a thriving career in art “outside the box”.
