This years’ art event opens March 6th 2015 for Women’s History Month and runs through April and the Ashland Gallery Association’s A Taste Of Ashland weekend. JEGA is welcoming artist entries for April! Each artist may submit up to two entries with the application form no later than March 23, 2015 for April 2015 Exhibit. There is a $10 submission fee per entry which will be waived for students with proper i.d. JEGA Gallery features the Steampunk Sculptures from Ashland’s artist Neil Stewart. Since moving to southern Oregon in 1971, Neil has been designing and building houses and restaurants. He created the façade for Alex’s restaurant, which received Oregon’s best historic renovation award 1985. Also constructed the Art Nouveau iron work on Guanajuato way, Ashland. Neil is currently engaged in building an organic farm and greenhouses with AquaPontic and hydroponic growing beds. A “Sillibration” and Reading of the Walls Celebration of the creative spirit of Wilkins-O’Riley Zinn. A Zinn Memorial scholarship has been set up with the SOU Foundation and proceeds from the profits of the prints will benefit college students. On display are Zinn’s original artworks or “Quiltz” from her series that include: Bomb Shadow, about growing up in the atomic age; Home Makers of the Academy, a tribute to the courage and wisdom of women; Flaming Youth, explores the perennial conflict between youth and age; You & Your Big Mouth, insight & irreverence from irrepressible women.
November’s Featured Artist is C. Von Teaselworth. Fascinated by hidden desire, Von Teaselworth explores the darkness of longing with an illustrative touch. Humorous, surreal figures cast a shadow of their vulnerability behind vivid colour palettes.
Dr. Wilkins-O’Riley Zinn, artist, educator and “fun”sultant extraordinaire will be honored with an exhibit of her humorous and passionate artwork.

When describing reductive works, using the term “LESS IS MORE” is sometimes saying too much. LESS is all that is needed. Thus the title of this show. Keira Kotler’s paintings done on acrylic sheets using slow drying urethane and varnishes, shimmer like transparent liquid metal illusions, while Martin Rosol’s elegant optical glass sculptures define what the purity of minimalism is all about. This show will open on August 6 and run through September 30, 2013.
Our featured artist is Clista Prelle-Tworek . Clista is an arts educator and professional artist, as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in the treatment of PTSD. Our featured artist’s for August is Marilyn Zupan. Art has always been a large part of Marilyn’s life. Marilyn was raised in a family that appreciated art in all forms, and several family members are artists. Marilyn’s father was English and she was fortunate enough to be able to live in England for more than 3 years. She developed a deep love for the softness and beauty of the English Countryside. Marilyn’s journey into art began with calligraphy becoming a passion that led to her teaching this art form for more than 20 years. In 2009, a friend suggested that she try doing watercolours and a new passion was born. The freedom and beauty of watercolour captured Marilyn’s imagination. She has been painting and taking classes since then and ha not stopped, event to the point of painting in her dreams. She is inspired by memories of England and being able to recreate those memories in watercolour is pure joy. Marilyn was honored by being juried into the Watercolor Society of Oregon in October 2011. Combining new techniques in kiln forming glass, this installation by Catharine Newell will feature dramatic wall sculptures of glass birds along with frit “drawings” and some unexpected surprises. Innovative reductionism is the best way to describe the evolving artwork of Peri Schwartz. This exhibition is essentially a snapshot, or a time-stamp if you will, of the artist’s continuing interpretation of her small studio environment. Currently on display, Gaelyn Larrick and Cathy Dorris have created pieces specifically for Taroko to complement the colors and Asian-themed interior. Cathy Dorris is featuring Zen Series Haiku art. Gaelyn has a collection of colorful Asian landscapes. Upstairs, we also have pieces from William Crowley. Cathy Dorris is a mixed media artist inspired by natural history and ethnic world arts. Her passion is in the journey of creating museum style pieces from ordinary and mundane objects. Gaelyn Larrick is a mixed media artist with passion in creating glimpses of our connection to something intuitively known but not always obvious.
During June, Cathy DeForest is printing four artists’ books on her etching press for the international project, Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here. The project is in honor of the ancient bookseller street in Baghdad that was attacked with a car bomb in 2007. Cathy is one of 260 artists from 24 countries whose books will be exhibited for two years in the US and abroad and then given to the National Library of Baghdad. “RED” is a show of recently delivered new non-objective work from Catherine Woskow. The show, which will run through March in Gallery Space 1 includes a stunning body of work in RED as well as new work from wood turner John Dowling. In Gallery Space 2 we will be featuring kiln formed glass vessels by one of our new glass artists for 2013 Rhoda Baer. ‘Opening Up To New Perspectives’, is the title of a stone sculpture by resident sculptor, J. Ellen Austin and is a feature of this month’s exhibit. As an artist, J. Ellen appreciates that Art has the potential to provoke and challenge a viewer’s perspectives and ways of looking at the world. Italian translucent alabaster is a distinctive choice for an artist to open up and allow light to naturally shine through the stone. This particular stone inspired her to create a symbol of harmony and hope. Painting Demonstration 5-8 pm First Friday – January 5th Etienne Studio 143 N Third Street Ashland, Oregon Nicole Etienne is in Ashland for a short time and is preparing paintings for her expositions in Los Angeles, London and St. Barthelemy in 2012. Painting Demonstration is from 6-7 pm She will include use of copper metal leaves, antiqued glazing and application of oil paint with large brushes!
