LESS

Martin Rosol

When describing reductive works, using the term “LESS IS MORE” is sometimes saying too much. LESS is all that is needed. Thus the title of this show. Keira Kotler’s paintings done on acrylic sheets using slow drying urethane and varnishes, shimmer like transparent liquid metal illusions, while Martin Rosol’s elegant optical glass sculptures define what the purity of minimalism is all about. This show will open on August 6 and run through September 30, 2013.

Using dynamic lighting techniques, Photographer Cornelius Matteo captures his vision of the excitement and energy of the 2013 Ashland Film Festival. Wine and hors d’oeuvres reception, and music by Alexis. “Every Spring, Southern Oregon is buzzing with the excitement of the Ashland Independent Film Festival. Over 18,000 tickets are sold to film lovers who gather at the historic art-deco Varsity Theatre in downtown Ashland to watch over 85 films in five days. These photographs represent my vision of this wonderful event ” – Cornelius Matteo   Biography “It all began as a child, watching the great films. Life unfolded before my eyes and I wondered what lay inside each actor’s thoughts and feelings. I questioned the role that light played in telling each person’s story and studied how both lightness and darkness illuminated character. For the past 15 years I have worked in visual arts both as a commercial videographer and a photographer. I was also nominated for my work in Off Broadway for a Spotlight On award, for best lighting design. As a new-comer to Ashland, my joy comes from working with clients who seek a unique and loving portrait of themselves, […]

New Artwork – February 2013

NEW ARTWORK AT DAVIS AND CLINE GALLERY – FEBRUARY 2013 http://www.davisandcline.com/WhatsNew.cfm This limited edition photograph by Miya Ando uses special dyes applied to a brushed aluminum sheet. The result is a dynamic and lustrous surface that changes with the light source and the viewer’s angle of view.   Frieda Golding’s new drawings on mylar are subtle outlines of her environment distilled to essential abstractions of color and association.  Framed at 14″ x 13 1/2″ in clear maple wood with plexiglass.   Once again, Natalie Sudman has successfully expressed the same sense of vastness and isolation fused with observational annotation that was so much a part of her earlier map series. In this case however, the documentation of lost civilizations has been replaced by the documentation of the process of loss of our own civilization.   Keira Kotler’s paintings done on acrylic sheets using slow drying urethane and varnishes, shimmer like transparent liquid metal illusions.   Matthew Picton’s work is best understood as a progression and development of a focused idea using a broad range of innovative and unusual media. His work has an intellectual point of departure with a near […]

Here was a place where all the facades of civilization were stripped away leaving only the raw, pulsing core of our beings.” Other artists at Love Revolution include Pegi Smith, Lindy Kehoe and Vrinda Heyden. Opening Up To New Perspectives: Art that encourages people to open up their perspectives and ways of viewing the world.

‘Opening Up To New Perspectives’, is the title of a stone sculpture by resident sculptor, J. Ellen Austin and is a feature of this month’s exhibit. As an artist, J. Ellen appreciates that Art has the potential to provoke and challenge a viewer’s perspectives and ways of looking at the world. Italian translucent alabaster is a distinctive choice for an artist to open up and allow light to naturally shine through the stone. This particular stone inspired her to create a symbol of harmony and hope. She asserts that, “‘Opening Up To New Perspectives’ is something I have tried to do throughout my life, and I hope other artists and art appreciators might consider doing themselves.” She desired to create a sculpture that would encourage dialogue. Art that encourages people to open up their perspectives and ways of viewing the world. Allow yourself to open up to new perspectives. Join us this month at the JEGA Gallery. Be prepared for a bodacious mix of visual and contemporary art including: paintings, drawings, performance art and sculpture.
