Creating art is the most pleasurable sensation I have ever had the
fortune to experience. While painting, my artistic “moments” always
lead me unconsciously into another more enlightening picture. That is
what excites me—colors that I thought I had seen moments before are
magically changed and my “vision” is suddenly alive. Because of this,
I make abrupt, abstract strokes of color, line and texture to quickly
capture concrete images.
August Schilling is an Ashland based photographer who also works in
arboriculture, safety training, and ecotourism. He captures his curiosity
through the lens and shares it through his imagery, hoping to inspire
others outside or abroad to find what moves them. It is through an
appreciation of this world that we may all keep working to sustain it.
Pegi Smith resides and works from her home studio in the mountains
outside Ashland Oregon. She is a self taught artist, using her paints
in an innovative manner unique to herself! When you look closer into a
particular painting of hers you’ll most likely find things that were not
immediately identifiable. She strives to bring emotion into many of her
works and being out in nature daily as well as the ebb and flow of life
experiences bring her constant inspiration. Commissions welcome!
Contemporary Realism meets Impressionism in my work. I paint hiking
experiences, collaborating with hikers from around the country. They
are paintings of real places. Perhaps they’re places you want to go, or,
may have already been. Using a loose, “painterly” style, you are invited
to take an active role in exploring and viewing the location. I graduated
with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of
Chicago in 2003.
The unpredictable and exciting way watercolor pigments mix on paper
has kept me interested in painting for the past 24 years! Subject matters
vary as long as it is vivid and colorful. I have signature membership in
NWWS, CWA, WFWS, and MtWS and am a Diamond Award winner in
WSO. My work is exhibited at the Art & Soul Gallery, Ashland; Rogue
Gallery, Medford; Carefree Buffalo, Jacksonville; 2nd Street Gallery,
Bandon; and at “Charlotte’s Web Studio & Gallery” in east Medford.
In my paintings, I hope to evoke something in the viewer that makes
them think about a story that might be told, or feel an emotional
connection to the image. Whether it is an old building, with many stories
to tell, or the quiet interior of restaurant or bar, I am intrigued with the
possibility of a story hinted at by my paintings.
