She powered us up through it without hesitation while we hollered our astonishment. It was an apt welcome to their rainy season. These Sister Cities share hot, dry summer weather, so the rain was welcome. My umbrella was handy coming out of the Museum of the Inquisition, and also the very new Traveling Mummies Museum. The rainstorm on the way to the Symphony performance slowed the traffic to a halt on the narrow streets downtown. We bailed out of our car a couple of blocks from the hall, under umbrellas, and managed to take our seats the moment before the conductor took the podium and the exquisite music slowly swelled to the fullness of its beauty. The itinerary we received on our first day listed 3 – 5 destinations per day, usually starting with hearty breakfasts hosted by civic organizations, complete with friendly introductions and descriptions of their purpose. It was impossible to do it all in one week, especially when I needed time to draw from the city center scenery. C O N T I N U E D
