he Ashland Gallery Association exists to bring awareness to the visual arts, up until now centering its attentions on Ashland sites. The scope of AGA membership has expanded to include Jackson and Josephine Counties, and bordering California counties. Look for the Neighboring Arts Organizations in the Member Listings. Going to our neighbor country, what is there to see in Guanajuato, Mexico? Performing arts, museums, galleries, sacred art in the many churches, the colonial architecture, make the city an endless source of photographic art. No wonder Ashland and Guanajuato are Sister Cities. All kinds of people are artists. Some have a gift for instruction. For self-fulfilment in the arts you need go no further than the Rogue 2 Ashland Gallery Guide Valley’s many teaching artists. Julia Janeway, herself an artist, interviewed a few here. And many, many people can participate in a soft art activism with a hard message—anti gun violence—by creating a quilt panel. Public Art has been popping up like mushrooms, i.e. something you hunt for. There are now online guides to art locations throughout town, on both the City of Ashland website and on the SOU website – which is being updated.
