Painted Memories of 2011

Plein Air Oil Landscapes by Silvia Trujillo. New to the Art & Soul Gallery, Silvia is presenting fresh works that were painted on location throughout Southern Oregon throughout the year; Emigrant Lake, Billings Pond, Ashland Hills, Mountain Lakes, Mt. McLoughlin and Lithia Park are all among some of the represented scenery. Trujillo is known for her California and Oregon impressionist oil paintings which reflect her mastery of capturing the color and atmosphere of these regions.

Artists Statement: My life took on a new dimension when I decided to try painting. I had thought about it for many years, with the emphasis on “many.” I’ve always loved the paintings of Van Gogh and Picasso so I began by copying one of each artist. I learned that I could copy pretty well, so then it was time to find my own way. I’m still on an exploration learning new methods and trying new materials. Like my mentors, I became an abstract painter learning the meaning of the expression “The Agony and the Ecstasy.” I came to the Rogue Valley at the young age of six in 1949. My dad had been made manager of the newly remodeled F.W. Woolworth store so I grew up in Medford. After high school, Ashland became my home for five years. I left with a husband, an adorable baby and a Master’s Degree in Education. Due to my husbands’s career, overseas assignments took the family to many foreign destinations. Watercolorist Cynthia Flowers Featured at Ashland Art Center

Cynthia Flowers will be displaying and demonstrating her abstract watercolors during the Art Walk. She has been partially color blind since she sustained a serious head injury at age 5, but you would never know it when seeing her marvelously colorful art work. Find Cynthia and her work in Lower Level Studio 5B. Friday, February 3, 5:00 – 8:00 pm at 357 E Main St, Ashland All Ages Welcome! Live Music! Painting Demonstration 5-8 pm First Friday – January 5th Etienne Studio 143 N Third Street Ashland, Oregon Nicole Etienne is in Ashland for a short time and is preparing paintings for her expositions in Los Angeles, London and St. Barthelemy in 2012. Painting Demonstration is from 6-7 pm She will include use of copper metal leaves, antiqued glazing and application of oil paint with large brushes! The showcased techniques are the “secret” to her rich and moody skies of her land and water series. We would love for you to join us! There will also be information of 2012 classes in Ashland, London, and the South of France.
